Users of this site are being asked for their views on the planned WPUK Awards 2014.
Details of the awards are listed on WordCamp Bournemouth UK 2014 content ideas, copied below:
It is proposed to instigate annual awards for UK originated WordPress related activities involving nominations and voting by the WPUK Discuss community before the conference. The results of the voting will be announced and the awards will be made during conference. Categories for awards could include the following, all of which must be built on or for WordPress and originate in the UK:
- Best overall website
- Best website content
- Best web application
- Best plugin
- Most creative use of WordPress
Details are fluid at the moment, but the idea is to involve registered users of this site as integral to the process, with the awards being announced during the last session at Bournemouth.
Part of that process is gathering views on the details of how this can work.
Therefore, it would be great to get comments on the plan before midday on Sunday 18 May 2014.
Here’s some questions to consider:
Anyway, there’s a few questions to start the discussion – looking forward to your feedback!

Hi Tony,
Would it be worth having a category to recognise contributions to the community.
To recognise those who contribute a lot that may not be in shiny code?
Not sure how you would judge that though, questions answered on stack overflow? beginners helped? perhaps its a little fluffy.
Adam
I quite like this idea – it would be good to recognise ‘contributors’… but I think the criteria would have to be broad… for instance I’m not on Stack Overflow!
@jonnya Yes probably that was a bad example it would have to be broader. I guess if it was more of a poll or vote amongst people given some rough guidelines.
@adamw – the idea is that nominations can be made for each category, then a vote is taken for each of those categories to determine the winner under each heading, all involving WPUK Discuss registered users.
On your suggestion, contributions to the community, we could say something along the lines of non-code or design, but could include website content, assistance on WP help sites, etc.
Let me have a think about this….

Version 0.4 of the WordCamp Bournemouth UK 2014 running order has been posted.
Not all session proposals have been included at this stage, since further ideas are awaited, and the running order needs to be structured both horizontally and vertically (if you see what I mean!)

Bournemouth University is going to be the venue for the WPUK unconference on 12-13 July 2014 .
This follows the ballot of WPUK Discuss registered users to select the venue, in which 31 voted for Bournemouth and 30 for Birmingham.
The WPUK Core Group would like to thank the Birmingham and Bournemouth teams for their respective venue bids, and to all WPUK Discuss users who participated in the ballot.
Surprised how close the voting was! Look forward to heading to Bournemouth in July! :)

Bournemouth is the proposed venue of WPUK Unconference 2014, with Birmingham expected to be added as an alternative.
The deadline for submissions for the venue bids has been extended to Saturday 22 March 2014, by the WPUK Core Group, to accommodate the second proposal.
If there is more than one proposal, a ballot of registered WPUK Discuss users will select the winning venue.
When examining proposals, it’s important to look at all aspects – not just the city the venue is located.
For example, costs attached to proposals will obviously be a factor in setting ticket prices for attendees.
Any questions or comments on the Bournemouth proposal should be made in the comments to this post.
